Mr. Michael Ford RN B.S.N., Afternoon Keynote Speaker

In August 1986 he chose to end his life of self destruction and turn his life around. In December 1993, Mr. Ford was transformed from "Dealer to Healer" by graduating from Wright State University with his bachelors of Science in Nursing. For the last 21 years Mr. Ford has been employed at the Dayton VA Medical Center where he was the Nurse Manager of the Pre-Op/Post-Op Surgical unit for the last 5 years. Currently at the Dayton VA Medical Center he holds the position of Mental Health Nurse Specialist. He is the public relations officer for the Sankofo sponsored group aptly named the Men of Standards: An African American Male Enrichment group which supports youth and single parenting fathers. He has been the keynote speaker at numerous high school and community events stressing the importance of higher education and maintaining a drug and gang free lifestyle.

Mr. Ford is also the President of the Dayton Black Nurse¨s Association where he has planned and implemented programs for high risk youth in our community. His story and message to the youth of our community has been featured in the Dayton Daily News Paper on numerous occasions. He was selected by Wright State University to be featured on the cover of their Community Health magazine in 2004. His testimony is: It took a lot of hands and hearts to pull me in the right direction, but it is never too late to change and become successful. It happened for me though hard work and dedication, it can happen to others who choose to stand up for what is right and change for the better. That is why I have dedicated my life to motivating our youth to prevent self destruction and strive for success against formidable odds.
